Webstart not downloading
Answer

Hi there,
When I downloaded the Web Start on my old computer running XP I got an icon on my desktop. I have attemped several times to download Web Start on my new computer running Windows 7 but there is no sign of it anywhere on my system and no icon on my desktop. What is going wrong?

I can now only satisfy my griddler addiction by logging onto the website each day and opening the applet there. I miss the convenience of being able to work offline.

Any suggestions on how I can fix this issue would be much appreciated. Thanks

Hi
need to have installed Java Runtime prior to start webstart app. Visit www.java.com where you can install Java.
Then you can open igridd.jnlp file in Java webstart launcher.

Thanks Rasto. emoticon I can now open the applet from going to Java in the Control Panel but the desktop shortcut has an application error - "unable to launch the application." emoticon

Great, so next step - what is the exception? Click on Details button  , section Exception or Console. Both show a lot of usefull information.

The details - exception states "Error. Could not parse launch file. Error at line 57". The following details are then shown:-

JNLParseException[ Could not parse launch file. Error at line 57.]
 at com.sun.javaws.jnl.XMLFormat.throwNewException(Unknown Source)
 at com.sun.javaws.jnl.XMLFormat.parse(Unknown Source)
 at com.sun.javaws.jnl.LaunchDescFactory.buildDescriptor(Unknown Source)
 at com.sun.javaws.jnl.LaunchDescFactory.buildDescriptor(Unknown Source)
 at com.sun.javaws.jnl.LaunchDescFactory.buildDescriptor(Unknown Source)
 at com.sun.javaws.Main.launchApp(Unknown Source)
 at com.sun.javaws.Main.continueInSecureThread(Unknown Source)
 at com.sun.javaws.Main.access$000(Unknown Source)
 at com.sun.javaws.Main$1.run(Unknown Source)
 at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)

This means absolutely nothing to me, I don't understand computer jargon at all lol emoticon

Hi, it seems like corrupted file. Download the file to your computer and open it with notepad or any other text editor. You should see content like this :
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<jnlp codebase="http://igridd.com/"
                 href="igridd.jnlp">
<information>
<title>iGridd</title>
<vendor>Griddlers.net</vendor>.........................
Is the the same ?
