iGridd for iPhone and iPad
Answer

We are going to release an iGridd application for iPhone and iPad. Of course, it won't be the same as other our applications because of the limitations of these small devices but we will try to make it as good as possible.

What’s different from the puzzles in our site?
  • There is no mouse on iPhone. So you'll have to use your fingers to put the cursor on the correct place and then tap the color button after that.
  • The screen size is much smaller than a usual PC. This means the puzzle size is limited. On an iPhone there can be up to 20 cells with readable two digits numbers inside. It means the puzzle size can be approximately 15x15, with still enough space left for the clues. For the iPad the situation is much better, the maximum puzzle size will be close to 50x50.
  • The application has no access to our on-line database of puzzles. There will be 60 built-in puzzles. More bundles can be ordered in the AppStore.
  • So far there is no connection with your on-line user account, but we will work on that for the next release.

When will be the application available?
Soon. Follow this forum thread and you will be informed.

Is the iPhone/iPad app written in Java? How hard would it be to transfer it to the Android development system?

I've tried several of the Droid "nonogram" apps, and I agree that it's hard to make it usable on a small device. Ideally you could access the very same puzzles from the Griddler site with an interface that's tailored to a smart phone. But I have issues with a 50-pixel height on my laptop. And I'm not generally into minimals, so it almost seems useless!

Does this application have a griddlers.net's engine?
Thx

What do you mean by "engine" ?
User interface is different, because it uses touch screen and puzzle list offline list of preselected puzzles which fits the size of device.
So the answer is NO.

Is there any way that you can make the iPad app allow the puzzles to rotate?  The screen is so small, I cannot see the Griddlers and try to turn the iPad horizontal, but the puzzles will not go horizontal.  Also, the interface is not as easy as others.  Could we select multiple pixels for the same color?

Hi,
we are trying to select puzzles which are oriented portrait, when you rotate the device only the numbers are rotated.
Multi pixel fill :
1. select the start pixel
2. select the color
3. select the end pixel, line or rectangle area is marked green
4. confirm the color

This weekend I plan to submit new version with slightly changed color selector - short click puts the color in one pixel, long click starts the area marking mode.

Help, I don't like (or don't understand) the new iPad update. Can't fill multiple pixels, and the cursor moves really oddly. Takes ages to do puzzle.
Bring back the old version! Quickly!

Hi
unfortunatelly we did not describe change well in update description and it is not possible to change it later. Here is how it works:
1. select the start pixel
2. click to fill one cell
3. or hold the color button for 1/2 second to start area filling mode ( green border )
4. select the end pixel
5. confirm the color
For beginner users one click color fill is intuitive, and for advanced users like you there is area mode.
What do you mean by: cursor moves really oddly ? It should work as it used to.

Ok, thanks so much. That makes sense now. Once I get used to it, it will be much faster. Thanks.

Regarding the cursor, when I was dragging it along a row to fill it in like I used to, it would jump up about 20 squares or so. But now that I know the new method of single short or long clicks, that will work now.
Thanks for fast reply!

\quote]

I noticed that in the old version I could drag the cursor to the next field (particular handy when I by mistake click on the field next to the desired field). In  the new version the cursor jumps some fields away if I drag it.

Some modicfications I would like in a new version
1. Possibility to 'ReDo' (If I click by mistake on 'Undo')
2. Possibility to multiple select the 'x' and the 'o'

BTW: I love the game on Ipad. Particulary because I don't have to sit behind the CPU but next to my wife ;)

The background colour is not good, because this gray and white nearly. Maybe dark gray is better background.

Thanks à lot for the iPad app!
I only have one problem: i do not understand at all how to use basic mode...
I use a stylus, so this mode should be perfect, according to its description. But no way to fill any cell...

Thanks à lot for your help.

Hi
in basic mode, first select the color want to use then click on the cell where you want to put it. The color is placed at the moment when you release the pen. So it is not like a "drawing" on paper, it is more about the clicking.

Hi.

Thanks for your answer. I read that in the help menu. I think there is something wrong in my way to click in the cell, it does not work at all. Impossible to fill any cell, again.
It seems that basic mode is not for me...

It's very nice of you.
I have an iPad 2, with iOS 5.1.1. I downloaded Griddlers on AppStore 2 days ago, so I think it is the newest version.

Do not waste your time for too long, maybe it is just a lack of understanding, and the electronic has nothing to do with that... ;-)

Hi,

We are working on this issue. I've already seen screenshots, but so far I don't have a device with this problem so I can debug it. On iPad 1, 4 and Mini it is good.

I want to take this opportunity and call for participation on testing: if someone sends me their device's UUID I can make a test build of application for them.

Thanks,
Rasto.

Hi
we already fixed this issue and submited new version to Apple, however all testers are welcome. Well, not many testers, 5 are enough.
You can find UUID/UDID according to this article http://www.hightechdad.com/2011/06/09/how-to-get-the-uuid-of-your-ios-device-even-in-a-panic/ , send me it to email address rasto@griddlers.net .

Btw, this week I am in Antwerps on Java conference Devoxx.

L'appli est génial, la façon de colorier les cases est pratique mais ce serai bien d'avoir des griddlers en plus dedans sans à avoir à payer
