nolas | Sorry clark02. The "P" stands for pursuit. That was the designation used during WW2 for US fighter aircraft. The Mustang was the first fighter with enough range to escort bombers all the way to their targets in Europe and back to England. A few other WW2 fighters: P47 Thunderbolt; P38 Lightening; P40 Warhawk (used in China). The P51 was definitely a fighter. |
