Happy Birthday, - Today, June 1st, we celebrate our 10th birthday is celebrating its 10th birthday today. Curious to know how it all started? Here is our story, written a couple of years ago by mooseroo(*):

It all started 10 years ago, with the software engineer Rasto Rehak of Bratislava, Slovakia, whose username in is Ra100. It is Rasto's program which verified the solvability of the puzzles.

Rasto first applied his computer skills to the puzzle as a favor to a family member. He tells: "Because my sister moved from Slovakia, where we had several Griddlers magazines, to Vermont, US, where there are none, I created a 'workshop' program for her. She could draw an image in the workshop and it would calculate the clues and print the rendered puzzle."

Rasto continued to develop his Java-based application with an eye towards an online application and, on June 1, 2002, was opened to everyone. "In fact, I did not maintain the site too much," he recalls. "For me it was just a playground for programming. Of course, a good website is not only about the technology, it is also about the community and people around. Then I met hagitm." He is referring to Hagit Maor, a writer and editor from Tel Aviv, Israel.

Hagit affirms Rasto's view of their individual roles on the site. "[He] is more for the code and I am more for the content." She shares how she became involved with the site from its infancy: "When Rasto put the program online... people started to come, me included. I contacted him by e-mail several times about errors and unkind threads in the forum that should be removed. In December 2002, he asked me if I could keep an eye on the site while he was celebrating Christmas with his family. He gave me the 'keys' to the site... and as the famous quote reads - the rest is history."

10 years ago we had about 300 Griddlers online. Thanks to our Griddlers Authors and Triddlers Authors today we have more than 120,000 Griddlers, half of them are MultiGriddlers, and 10,000 Triddlers

Then we launched the Kiddlers - a safe environment for the kids and categorized all the puzzles into Themes - Griddlers and Triddlers.

And then we created the G-Match and the T-Match tournaments - series of matches held on Saturdays.

Last year (2011) we developed 10 new Number Logic Puzzles: Sudoku, Killer, Greater Than/Less Than, Kakuro, Kenken, Futoshiki, Straights, Skyscraper, and Binary.

A couple of months ago the Word Search puzzles were produced.

Do we have plans for the future? You bet we do! Thanks to our subscribers we can maintain the site and grow.
